Created by Congress in 1971, Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) are tasked with creating and supporting future and current health care workers in rural and underserved communities.
Here in Alaska, there are seven regional offices providing services throughout The Last Frontier.
The Southeast Alaska AHEC partners with healthcare facilities, academic institutions (University of Alaska and University of Washington), private practices, municipalities and more to:
- ENGAGE and INSPIRE students to pursue health care careers
- TRAIN students in practice settings
- RECRUIT students into jobs in Alaska
- SUPPORT a quality workforce by offering continuing education series
AHEC is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
The Southeast Alaska AHEC is a program of SERRC – Alaska’s Educational Resource Center.
